How an engaging cross-platform application is helping educate wooden stove users, digitizing their experience, and reducing harmful emissions

Business Problem
In North America, where temperatures can drop to freezing lows in winters, manyhomes have an in-house heating system to weather the cold.Wood stoves are a popular choice when it comes to home heating systems, but they too come with their own set of problems.Improperwood stove operation can often lead to sub-optimal stove performance and contribute to increased emissions and pollution. This is why a US-based wood stove manufacturer wished to add a smart touch to wood stoves helping in remote operation, real-time user guidance, and ensuring optimal stove performance. The need was to build a mobile app that would act as a real-time wood stove user and management guide and keep users engaged along the way.
Technology Solution
IncubXperts was involved and engaged in building this solution from concept to delivery! The team envisioned the user personas, built wireframes, build high definition, low-definition interfaces, architected mobile app to operate wood stoves and provide real-time user guidance.This mobile app seamlessly interacts with an accompanying IoT device which can be configured with any fire stove giving it a smart capability
Here are some notable highlights:
- A User persona-based UI/UX was conceptualized and designed by our team of UX experts to ensure maximum user engagement, retention and education.
- A Gamification framework was thought through and built. User badges (a tool used in gamification), drives engagement and provide a sense of progress to the user on their user journey.
- Gamification framework consists of reward system, emission score, emission states and user badges for performing timely actions that acts as a positive reinforcement measure to facilitate proper stove care and usage, ultimately reducing environmental emissions.
- An analytics dashboard at the backend gives real-time stove-related data like temperature, fire status, door status, etc.
- Real-time alerts like ‘Close the door’ ‘Reload the wood’, ‘engage catalyst’ prompt users to operate the stove efficiently and educate them.
- An accompanying Flutter-based web application acts as an analytics/reporting tool which extracts user data & presents it as insightful reports to the admin to understand user behaviour.
